Bessy
Bessy was made especially for ‘The Cotton Ball’; a biennial charity event that raises money and awareness for Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).
Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is a heartbreaking skin condition caused by the lack of protein that binds the layers of the skin together. Without this protein, the skin breaks apart, blisters and sheers off, leading to severe pain, disfigurement and constant gaping open wounds.
Kerri wanted to imbue Bessy with love and also show the emotional journey sufferers go through. I did this by incorporating soft fluffy wool fibres into the weave and contrasted this with rough ropes and leathers.
The divine gold beads interspersed throughout the weave were purposely selected to represent the beautiful children who navigate life with EB. The finishing touch was a warm wool fabric for a softer texture that would encourage the mind, body and soul to relax.
